Veteran Bollywood actor Sridevi was honoured with the TITAN Reginald F Lewis Film Icon Award at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival.

New Chief Justice of Manipur High Court -Ramalingam Sudhakar
Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar was sworn-in as the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court. Justice Sudhakar was administered the oath of office by Governor Jagdish Mukhi at the Raj Bhawan in Imphal.

Ambika Sharma to head USIBC India office
The U.S India Business Council named Ambika Sharma as its head for India. Ms. Sharma was Director General for International at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Indore was ranked India’s first cleanest city, as per latest survey ‘Swachh Survekshan-2018’. Bhopal has been ranked second and Chandigarh third in the survey at the national level. 

Gujarat Government to launch free treatment scheme for road accident victims
The state government of Gujarat would be launching free treatment scheme for the road accident victims on May 18, 2018.

Under the scheme, the state government will bear medical expenses of up to 50,000 rupees for each victim of a road accident in the state for the first 48 hours.The government would reimburse the amount to the hospital concerned upon submission of bills.

Gina Haspel confirmed as first female director of CIA
 The US Senate confirmed Gina Haspel as the first female director of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on May 17, 2018.

She was previously serving as Deputy Director under former CIA Director Mike Pompeo in the beginning of Trump’s administration.


Central Intelligence Agency

 It is a foreign intelligence service of the United States government, which is tasked with gathering, processing, and analyzing national security information from around the world, primarily through the use of human intelligence (HUMINT).
 

Unlike the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which is a domestic security service, the CIA has no law enforcement function and is mainly focused on overseas intelligence gathering, with only limited domestic intelligence collection.
Phagwara
The first-ever all-woman Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) started operations in Phagwara, Punjab. The seva kendra was inaugurated by Union Minister Vijay Sampla in the local head Post Office.

The US has said that it wants to build a global coalition against Iran and its destabilizing activities. US aims to bring together a lot of countries from around the world with the specific goal of looking at the Iranian regime through a more realistic lens.


Delhi to become the most populous city: UN estimates 

According to the United Nations estimates, Delhi is projected to become the most populous city in the world around 2028.

Tokyo is the world’s largest city with population of 37 million inhabitants, followed by New Delhi with 29 million and Shanghai with 26 million.

The projected population size of New Delhi in 2028 is about 37.2 million.
