Plastic pollution has become an epidemic
World Environment Day is the United Nations' (UN) most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. World Environment Day is the "people's day" for doing something to take care of the Earth.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Union Minister of State for Environment, Mahesh Sharma spoke about minimising the usage of plastic. He stressed on the fact that plastic is a necessity but at the same time, we need to make sure that our need shouldn’t turn into a curse. “Plastic is a necessity for us, but it shouldn't become a curse.
On World Environment Day, Tamil Nadu has decided to ban single use plastics such as polythene bags and bottles.Himachal bans use of thermocol plates.
Every year the world uses up to 5 trillion plastic bags.50 percent of the plastic we use is single-use of disposable.We Currently recover only five percent of the plastics we produce.it takes 500-1000 years for plastic to degrade.Annually approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide.More than one million bags are used every time.
What we should take care of to reduce Plastic Pollution?
REFUSE disposable plastic whenever and wherever possible. Choose items that are not packaged in plastic, and carry your own bags,
REDUCE your plastic footprint. Cut down on your consumption of goods that contain excessive plastic packaging and parts.Refuse plastic straws in your drink.Stop buying plastic bottled water.Get reusable bottle and refill it.
